Rather you like it or not, the “ugly” shoe style is gaining more fuel than ever imagined with the help of Post Malone and Crocs. Balenciaga’s Triple S was the first to successfully pioneer this trend of a clunky dad sneaker, and many celebs like Kylie Jenner and Hailey Baldwin quickly jumped on the bandwagon to wear them.
The look has now prevailed for a year, defining itself in the streetwear scene. To take on their own custom style, Crocs teamed up with Post Malone to release a new design at an affordable cost. On Friday October 2nd, the day of the release, the $59 shoe completely sold out within 24 hours.
The 23-year-old artist is most definitely known for his unique, laid back appearance from day one of his music career. Realizing the loud statement his appearance was making only led him to push further in the opposite direction of a clean cut rapper, getting tattooed on his face and letting his hair go wild.
Many fans have petitioned for him to be a client on Netflix’s Queer Eye, where they do a full on makeover for men who desperately need it. Instead of spending time in front of a camera he has been secretly working on this new Croc release in which he helped design.
The Chicago-born musician was all for the collaboration, being an avid Crocs wearer himself. “I wear Crocs everywhere from the bar to the stage and I felt it was the perfect collaboration to get together with Crocs and give the fans what they’ve been asking for,” he stated. The custom shoe features a “devil baby” emoji-like pattern and his Posty Co logo plastered on the side. Additionally sold are six custom Jibbitz which can be attached to any croc style. The “Come As You Are” campaign parallels well with Malone’s overall message he sends to his fans and Crocs put out a statement that it “is an authentic and natural fit for the brand”. Crocs has also assured the shoe will be back in stock shortly for those who missed the surprise release.
