ELLE Magazine is prided on not only covering fashion and entertainment, but also for giving young women hope and inspiration into daily life. Every year ELLE hosts the ‘Women in Hollywood’ event which celebrates the achievements of the attendees that far exceed their natural beauty. On October 15, many well-familiar faces arrived on the red carpet for the 25th Annual Celebration, including megastar Lady Gaga.
The A Star Is Born actress was styled in a Marc Jacobs oversized two-piece suit and tightly slicked back hair. As we all know, Lady Gaga is not one to shy away from any fashion risks. Back in 2010 she wore a pure meat dress to the MTV Music Video Awards to make a statement. However, this broad shouldered slouchy choice had meaning behind it as well. She has recently publicly opened up about her own sexual assault experience and is working towards curving some conceptual views of women within the entertainment industry. As she accepted her award at the ELLE ‘Women in Hollywood’ event she gave an incredibly vulnerable speech that explained more of her reasoning behind her outfit.
“I tried on dress after dress today getting ready for this event, one tight corset after another, one heel after another, a diamond, a feather, thousands of beaded fabrics and the most beautiful silks in the world. To be honest, I felt sick to my stomach. And I asked myself: What does it really mean to be a woman in Hollywood? We are not just objects to entertain the world. We are not simply images to bring smiles or grimaces to people’s faces. We are not members of a giant beauty pageant meant to be pit against one another for the pleasure of the public. We women in Hollywood, we are voices. We have deep thoughts and ideas and beliefs and values about the world and we have the power to speak and be heard and fight back when we are silenced.”
The moving speech and thoughtful choice of fashion touched many, but what really shocked everyone was her confirmation of her engagement to Christian Carino. The two have been dating since 2017. Next to her muted grey suit the gigantic pink sapphire ring was on full display. It is roughly 7 carats with 4 carats of diamond haloed around the gem. To put it into more perspective Kate Middleton wore a pink sapphire ring as well that estimated 12 carats, which is comparable to the overall of Gaga’s. The massive ring matches the bigger-than-life individual Lady Gaga embodies. The couple is staying rather private about the planning stages of the wedding as of now.
